Class act
Jun 23 2011, 4:42 AM EDT
I've been watching Deadliest Catch since the beginning. Being a marine biologist, I was naturally drawn to the program. One thing the has interested me is the attitude of the captains and how they've evolved over the years. Jonathan and Andy are truly a class act. They have big hearts as shown by their caring ( J with bird and visiting the hospital with Phil and Andy's demeanor. Your children should be proud Andy. Keep it up.

Capts Jon & Andy seemed to be some great guys. Class Act, you betcha. I have to laugh sometimes when it is Capt Andys turn and Capt Jon tries to make a decission, Capt Andy puts him in his place real fast and Capt Jon never says a word. They can be so funny. I think they do have big hearts. You know they took Eddie Jr to the dentist and paid for it. That reminds me of when Capt Phil said you are not a man until you pull a tooth with pliers or something like that and I think Jake pulled his own tooth.

I would have to agree with you both, those guys on the Time Bandit are real down to earth kinda guys. They work well together and do not waste time arguing over each others decisions. I Think Jonathan won my heart when he was there for the Harris boys in their time of need. I liked him before that but watching him durning the unfortunate passing of Phill Harris, gave me a whole new found respect for him......I wish all aboard the Time Bandit safe travels and full pots..........God Bless......

What kind of marine biologist? I was an Observer for AK fish and Game aboard the boats and later counted harbor seals in glacier fjords. I didn't like Andy to begin with but he's grown on me. Definitely a class act... at least as far as a fishing Captain can be. I still chafe of his treatment of JJ. Jon, he sweet but too much of a playboy for me. I fear that he will go the same way as Phil. Do you find this valuable? |

Capt Jon is my favorite on the Time Bandit but they both have huge hearts. Did you notice when Capt Jon had to leave the table when they were talking about Justin. Too Sad.

They seem to enjoy a good prank and having a good time. I wonder if their dad was like that. I guess he would have to be.

My masters thesis was on larval shrimp. I tried to grow giant shrimp in a pond setting. It actually worked. I tripled the size but it wasn't practical. I"ve been to Alaska twice and absolutely love it. I'll go again in a heartbeat.

I guess I was wondering if you could make a regular pond into a salt water pond like we do aquariums. I have never been to Alaska but I would love to go. Never thought about it until I started watching DC and I got interested in the state and discovered how truly beautiful it is. Do you find this valuable? |

I know in Asia and maybe parts of TX, they grow prawns in rice paddies. Is it anything like that?

The Time Bandit Boyz are my favorites for sure, but I still love the Northwesterners too as well as the Cornelia Marie crew. I hope some day Freddy returns to them. I really don't like him on the Wizard. Keith and Monty grate on me. I wish them success and safety, but they could be on a lot less and I would only miss Freddy. I wish Crosby Levine would show up on the TB.....Do you find this valuable? |

Never thought about it until I started watching DC and I got interested in the state and discovered how truly beautiful it is."Haven't done this in a while. Prawns are usually in fresh water although some go through a fresh and a salt water phase (born in one and migrate like salmon) Shrimp are salt water. In SC we can use old plantation rice fields below salt water line. Ponds need to be close to a salt water river to pump water. It wouldn't be practical to try to make salt water. The problem with our area is you can only get 1 growing season (120 days). Nearer the equator growers can get 3 seasons. Much more practical. Alaska is the most beautiful place I've ever been including England and Europe. Have a friend who's been 13 times and all over the world. Says it's the greatest! Do you find this valuable? |

"As you are from SC, do you know how to make "red rice"??? I have been searching for someone with a recipe for a very long time..."I've never made the true red rice. Think you use tomato juice to get that red color. I use olive oil and garlic to saute onions, then use 6 cups diced tomatoes with juice to 2 cups rice. Of course sausage is a must. Real southern cooking is wonderful. We had a housekeeper who brought us a racoon cooked with sweet potatoes to thank my dad for getting it for her. I'm sorry but the more I chewed the bigger it got! I will eat gator though. Wonderful. Do you find this valuable? |

The whole concept just got my attention. There are a lot of Catfish ponds in my area that raise them for market but I guess it would take a lot of aquarium salt to get one of them to have brakish water. LOL Do you still work in that field?
