Question about the share of money..
Apr 26 2011, 5:50 PM EDT
Hey guys, I have a question about the share. For example, on tonights show April 26th 2011 on the Cornelia Marie they were discussing the share of Jake and his brother. Each get 12.5 percent from what they said, and on the paper they had a break down. 515,000 lbs made 570,000. Minus 70 percent to boat?? I don't understand that. How many owners are there on the Cornelia Marie and how do they get paid. Are the expense like fuel, bait, and food included in that or is it taken out after the 70 percent? Then the crew shares are taken out. I just am confused how each, the owners all shares including Jake and brother, the skipper, and Crew make money. Some insight would be great. Also is it basically all the same for the boats on deadliest catch? Thank you in advance.

What the Captain makes is dependent on the contract made with the owner. What each deckhand makes is dependent on the contract with the Captain, usually. Deckhands usually make about 5%, engineers a percentage or two more. And Captains? I don't know honestly. I know the owner gets most of the pie though. So if you have a 5 man deck, that is 25% plus a few more for the engineer so 27% of all the net profits is taken with crew. Let's say Skipper gets 20%. That leaves more than 50% going to the owner. If you have more than one owner, well it would depend on what they agreed upon. But in the case of the Cornelia Marie, it sounds like the boys get to split 25% of the 50% that the owners rake in on top of their deck wages. But I have wondered why they can't keep crew on there very long, besides the two of them fighting and the boat looking like she's in need of some major overhauls in the shipyard. 2 out of 2 found this valuable.
